ACCRA TEXTILE CENTRE
By Marcos Zotes and Luis Ramos. Accra, Ghana, 2010
Ghana’s once thriving textile industry is now flooded with Chinese sub-standard textile products, not only surging the country’s unemployment index but also risking its cultural heritage. Aiming at regenerating this cultural element, the project proposes a cultural hub that combines a textile design school with textile production, community engagement and retail activities. The building engages with the existing conditions of the site - Makola Market - with the aim to improve both the social and urban fabric of its context.
